Opulent Bars

The Final Breath

When I leave you will be nothing more than a cage An enclosure where I could never grow But tonight you are beautiful You are my home You protect and feed and shelter me Every creature squawks, hums, sings. Chirping, flitting about between every building Paved roads are carved into our little patch of grass The creatures paint it Vibrant chalk displays more love More passion, more joy. I see where I have fallen in the snow Where I linked arms with dear friends Crunching every fallen brown leaf The beauty of this enclosure was never the cage Opulent bars all mismatched, Great gold rods against Colossal Corinthian columns. No, I could never grow here But how peaceful it was, How bright the lights shone Like twinkling stars.
